Mayfield. An enterprising village of about 150 population, on the Traverse City branch of the G. R. & I. R. R., at the Swift Creek in Paradise township, Grand Traverse County, 14 miles south of Grand Traverse, the county seat and banking town, 12 from Walton Junction and 131 from Grand Rapids. It contains a saw-mill, veneer mill, grist mill, Methodist church and district school. The principal shipments are hardwood lumber and veneers. Daily mail.
Note: Distances are not the same in 2005 as they were in 1884. Mileage has been shortened Mayfield is about 10 miles from Traverse City now with about 13 to Kingsley.
