Grand Traverse Area Cookbooks (Mi)
Ok, you are probably thinking.. oh, no! she doing recipes.. how does that connect with genealogy??? Simply, my Dear Watson~ by extracting the names of people that submitted recipes to these books. If you think about it? 90%+ of the time they are women and most often using their first name. Some did use the husband's name instead of their first name but.. it is still a clue for a time period. It would show they were in a certain town when the book was done. Of course, these are years that have no significance in relationship to census, marriage or other vital records.
Maybe, just Maybe,, we will find a cookbook that will put an ancestor of yours in a certain area and give you a nice big clue!! Just for the heck of it, I also added the names of the recipes. Who knows maybe you are a descendent and have 'just that recipe'. I have to say.. these cookbooks are the darndest (not in dictionary ;*) for not having a date of publication.
The books that do not have dates I will try to find out, at least, an approximate date.
IF YOU HAVE any cookbooks published by churches, societies, organizations and wish to extract the names (it is not very time consuming and can be sent in an email) and type and send to Brenda
If you do find a relative that is yours and you wish to have the recipe. Send an sase to me and I will photocopy and send it to you. Contact me for the address. There are a few books from out of the county and even the state.Extractions on hold until the typist has moved. ; > )
