The Newmarch family tree starts in Humber, England.  That's where John Newmarch met and married Lucy Parker.  They had six children born from that union.  John, James, David, Issac, Mary Ann and Rachel.

John and Lucy's two oldest children decided in 1850 they wanted something different for their lives so they left Hull, England for North America. John Jr., was 30 and brought his wife Mary (Midgley) and their young son James with them.  John Jr's,  younger brother James, then 27, came too.

They arrived in Canada and lived there for 16 years before moving to Montreal where John remained.  John's younger brother James met and married Melissa (Milks) on May 18, 1853.  They stayed in Montreal for 7 years and then moved again.

This time the move took them to Kingsley, Michigan, U. S. A.  Upon arriving in Kingsley, they set about becoming homesteaders.  This was in 1873.  They raised many crops from corn and grains to huge fields of cabbage, which was used to make sauerkraut.  James and Melissa raised six children.  Issac James, Andrew Thompson, David William, Howard Benjamin, and Emily.

Andrew Thompson Newmarch met and married Margret Halstead and decided to remain in this area so he purchased property on Townline Road from the Oval Wood Dish Company in 1873.  He built his house there and it still remains (1995).  It had 2 rooms up and 3 down.  It is used for storage today (1995) with an added room for a garage.  Andrew built a new brick home on the property and lived in the new home until his death.

Andrew's grandson Harold Newmarch bought the property from Margret in 1949, but wait I'm getting ahead of myself, now back to Andrew.  Andrew and Margret Newmarch raised 3 sons, Ernest, Earl and Roy (died in infancy, and 3 daughters Laura (Cornell), Cora (Delancy), and Cecil (Cortade).  The children were raised and each married and settled in the Kingsley area.

Andrew's son Earl bought and farmed a place at 6390 E. M-113.  this farm is now owned and operated by his grandsons Michael and Ronald Stremlow.  Earl met and married Mildred Smith and they had 10 children.  Four sons, Harold, Floyd, Jay and Kenneth (died in infancy), and 6 daughters, Vera (Riley), Lena (Themm), Doris (Stein), Irene (Stremlow), Helen (Fritz), and Leona (Nye).  The children all married and lived in the Kingsley area and raised their children except Jay Newmarch, who lives in Sparta, Michigan.

Harold bought his grandfather's farm at the age of 30.  He married a local girl named Mary Hency and raised 6 children, 5 of those girls: Elenora (Strange), Joan (Willingham), Juanita (King), Marion (Peplinski), Sharon (Case) and one son, Daniel.

What a feeling of history but then this is how our town was built, to become what it is today.  With families like mine working, playing and living side by side and helping one another.  Lets hope this is always true of our town.  What a great legacy for future generations.  End of Juanita's Story!
