New Hotel
--Thomas Cutler is going to open a Hotel, in a few days, on the corner of Front and Union streets--one of the best locations in town. Mr. Cutler is a pioneer in Traverse City and knows everybody.--We home he will do a flourishing business.

Rev. John H. Crumb, who has officiated as Pastor of the Congregational Church in Traverse City for nearly four years, left with his family on the 'Alleghany' last Tuesday. He has dissolved his connection with this people.

Mail Contract--The contract for carrying the mail between Grand Traverse and Manistee, twice a week, for four years from first of July next, has been awarded to B. E. Steward, of Benzonia. He is a healthy and energetic man, and will doubtless perform his contract faithfully.

A Sad Calamity-
-The dwelling house of Ira Chase who resides on the west side of Long Lake, in this township, was entirely consumed by fire on Thursday last, while he was about in Traverse City. All his household furniture, clothing, and the clothing of his family, together with all his provisions, including two or three hundred pounds of maple sugar, was burned. His barn was also burned, and a span of French Ponies perished in the flames. A cart, all his grain, and in short, everything he possessed, except the clothing on his back was destroyed.
