Senior Class History In September 1941, a new era dawned on the lives of fourteen country lads and lassies known by the names of Katherine Riley, Marshall Pierce, Lucille Spangler, Rex Henschell, Darrell Cook, Ella Nora Baldwin Evelyn Hudson, Estella Brow, Jean Muth, Ann Sedlacek, Virginia Sattler, Jim Pence, Charles Wall, David Nickerson and Alma Menzel.Since it is customary in the Kingsley school to get the freshman off at a good start and to eliminate any apparent signs of bashfulness in their rustic nature, this little group was subjected to the torture of initiation. With girls dressed as effeminate boys and boys as ungainly girls, they survived the ordeal and were accepted in the good grace of the other students. The next year Marshall Pierce was lost by the roadside, but Billy Bartz, and Patty Morehouse, joined the ranks of this now progressive class Traverse City Hospital. During their sophomore year several class parties were enjoyed under the supervision of their advisor, Mr. Menzel, who the students all agreed was a "swell guy". As time advanced and studies were scanned or skipped this notable class was elevated to rank of stately juniors. Again, Mr. Menzel was elected advisor. Darrell Cook and David Nickerson left this class behind as they joined those of '45 so they might enlist in the Coast Guards. As all eyes look back they regretfully see that their major interest was raising money for a senior trip with studying a minor problem. During the summer Charles Wall joined the Marines. His departure was climaxed with a "so long" party and many good luck wishes. Now they are dignified seniors with Mr. Howe, the Superintendent, as advisor. Eileen Brautigam and Donald Lueck liked the looks of them and joined the group. Past dreams of going to Yellow Stone Park for a trip is fading into oblivion, but some new port of adventure will surely be found. Two plays, "Nobody but Nancy", and "Busy As A Beaver" were presented by this group, with great success. It was also honored with three boys on the basketball team; Rex Henschell, Jim Pence and Donald Lueck. Jean Muth is the captain of the girl's team, and Lucille Spangler is manager. Now they are senior graduates with many fond memories of four years of high school behind them, and an uncertain future to face. May years to come be as happy and eventful as those of the past. Signed, Jean Muth |
